Facts

Ruth adds:
Naomi is doing such a good job blogging that I have neen reduced to reporting facts. Actually they are very interesting facts reported by the president of the Haitian Orthopaedic Society at our annual AAOS meeting two weeks ago in New Orleans. Before the earthquake Haiti had a total population of about 9 million of which 3 million lived in Port Au Prince. During the earthquake 300,000 died and another 250,000 were left injured. 80% were pelvic and lower extremity injuries. Before the earthquake there were 11 hospitals in Port Au Prince and 10 more outside the city in the rest of Haiti. After the earthquake the population dropped to 8.6 million and 2.2 million in Port Au Prince. Now there are only 6 hospitals still functioning. In the entire country there are only 3 c-arms and 1 microscope. Before the earthquake there were 41 Orthopaedic surgeons in Haiti. 2 died during the earthquake. One left the country. Now there are 38. We have not heard of any near Pierre Payen. That's why we chose to come here.
